DIY SOS – The Big Build
We are exceptionally proud to have been involved with providing technical expertise, advice and support to a deserving family in Manchester, which was featured on the BBC One series, DIY SOS: The Big Build. We were also featured on BBC’s North-West News.
Background
The DIY SOS team returned to Canada Street, in Newton Heath, to complete the project they began in 2015.
Previously, the DIY SOS team and hundreds of volunteers transformed the entire street into a community for ex-servicemen and women to live in.
On this project, Nick Knowles and the team were given just 10 days to transform two empty homes in the street into a large three-bedroom house.
Simon Flores, 36, from Oldham, moved into the final refurbished house on the site.
Single parent, Simon Flores, lived in Oldham in a two-bedroom home, which is a bit of a squeeze for his family of three children aged five, four and three.
The 36-year-old had his lower left leg blasted off while serving with The Rifles in Basra, Iraq, back in 2006.
He has split custody of the children with his wife and looks after them half of the week. The two brothers who shared a room with their sister, now have their own rooms, for them to enjoy for the rest of their lives and, hopefully when they are older, they will be able to invite friends over.
The project
RTC was the contractor of choice to install a specialist membrane system supplied by Delta Membrane Systems Ltd to the walls. This was to provide a permanent, dry, damp free environment. We were also called upon to provide expert advice on other areas of the build, where the impact of dampness may be a problem.
Our technicians, who are highly trained and qualified in the application of these products, were on-site for 3 days.
It was an absolute pleasure for all of us at RTC to be able to offer support and advice for such a worthy cause.
