Astley View Care Home, located in Euxton, Chorley, is a state-of-the-art 90-bed facility offering residential, dementia, and respite care. Spread over three stories, this luxury care home is designed to provide optimal comfort, support, and wellbeing for its residents. Boasting en-suite wet rooms, open lounges, upper-floor terraces, and a unique “market street” featuring shops, a cinema, beauty salon, and café/bistro, Astley View sets a new standard in care home design.

In its commitment to excellence, the home was developed by a team of architects and social care experts with a focus on creating a vibrant, health-conscious environment. However, during the construction phase, a significant challenge emerged that threatened the integrity of the build and the health of future residents.

During construction, an undetected roofing issue led to water ingress, which went unnoticed for a prolonged period. As plastering work commenced, extensive mould growth was discovered on walls and ceilings throughout the building. The mould, exacerbated by moisture retention in the structure, posed a serious risk to both the building’s fabric and the health of future occupants.

Immediate and thorough remediation was necessary to eliminate the mould, ensure the building was safe for habitation, and prevent recurrence.

Astley View Care Home engaged RTC to undertake a comprehensive mould cleaning treatment across the affected areas. The treatment involved:

The mould treatment was completed successfully, restoring the hygiene and safety standards of the building. The deployment of data loggers post-treatment allowed the care home and construction teams to monitor ongoing internal moisture trends and ensure a stable, healthy environment.
