Scouts London Trip October 2025

Supporting Young People Through Fundraising

Last October, the 5th Blackpool Scout Group organised an exciting three-day trip to London for 16 young people from our troop. With costs exceeding £300 per person, the group set out to deliver an ambitious fundraising programme to help reduce the financial burden on parents and carers—particularly important for families with more than one child involved in Scouts.

A variety of initiatives were organised in the months leading up to the trip, bringing together the local community, parents, and supporters. One of the standout events was a chocolate bingo evening, which proved to be both a fun social occasion and a highly successful fundraiser. With a wide range of raffle prizes and bingo rewards available, the evening attracted strong attendance and created a real sense of community spirit.

RTC generously supported this effort with a £500 donation towards the prize fund. This contribution was instrumental in ensuring that all funds raised on the night could go directly towards the London trip itself, maximising the impact of the event. The bingo evening alone raised a further £500, forming a key part of the overall fundraising total.

Making the Trip More Accessible

Thanks to RTC’s support, alongside additional fundraising activities, the group was able to significantly reduce the overall cost of the trip for families. This made the opportunity far more accessible and ensured that all 16 young people could take part without financial barriers limiting participation.

Beyond simply reducing costs, the additional funds also allowed leaders to enhance the overall experience. This included budgeting for group meals, travel flexibility, and small treats throughout the trip—ensuring the young people could fully enjoy everything the experience had to offer.

A Packed and Memorable Itinerary

The trip itself was designed to be both educational and inspiring, giving the young people the chance to experience some of the UK’s most iconic landmarks and cultural sites. Highlights of the itinerary included visits to:

  • Buckingham Palace
  • Tower Bridge
  • HMS Belfast

Each visit provided a unique learning opportunity, helping the group gain a deeper understanding of British history, heritage, and the scale of the capital city. For many of the young people, this was their first time visiting London, making the experience even more impactful.

Building Confidence, Independence and Lifelong Memories

Beyond the sightseeing, the trip played an important role in developing key life skills. The young people were encouraged to take responsibility, work as a team, and build independence in a new environment. Navigating a busy city, managing time, and supporting one another throughout the trip all contributed to their personal development.

Evenings were spent reflecting on the day’s experiences, sharing stories, and strengthening friendships within the group. These moments often become just as memorable as the attractions themselves, helping to build confidence and a sense of belonging.

The Impact of Community Support

Trips like this simply would not be possible without the support of local businesses and the wider community. RTC’s contribution went far beyond a financial donation—it directly enabled opportunities, experiences, and memories that will stay with these young people for years to come.

The success of the fundraising efforts and the trip itself is a testament to what can be achieved when organisations, volunteers, and communities work together with a shared goal.

Looking Ahead

Following the success of the London trip, the group is already exploring ideas for future experiences and adventures. With continued support, there is a strong ambition to provide even more opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and explore beyond their local area.

The 5th Blackpool Scout Group would like to extend a sincere thank you to RTC and everyone who supported the fundraising efforts. Your contribution has made a genuine and lasting difference.
